Cotswold Capers IV

Friday 8th to Sunday 10th July 2005

We have just returned home from a wonderful weekend in the Cotswolds. We were one of the last to arrive at this tranquil site, on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Bibury. Most people were well settled as they had arrived mid-week from the Chairman's Rally the previous weekend. (Unfortunately we had to go home in between times as I had to go to work.)

Friday evening we all met in The Marshals' Canvas Palace for a magnificent buffet supper, prepared for us by the Marshals, where we sat talking well into the evening catching up on the news.

Saturday was a free and easy day, but Tom & Iris had devised a Treasure Hunt for us. It was a lovely walk around Bibury, looking at many things you might have missed if you had just gone down for a stroll. In the evening we had a wonderful street party-cum-barbeque to celebrate to 60th anniversary of VE/VJ Day. Some people had even gone into Bibury to catch their trout supper. Family visitors also joined us for the party. As it was a hot evening the tables were lined up outside and everywhere was decorated with flags and bunting, some of it being made by the children. Appropriate music was playing in the background and some people joined in a singsong. We had a low level fly past by a VC10 and an aerobatic display by a Hawker Hunter (obviously arranged by Tom!) Later that evening after we had finished eating Mike Edgington cut a celebration cake. Around 10.00pm we all moved into The Palace as it was starting to get cool.

Sunday was a glorious day again and our President took Flag. We were also joined by other members and associate members who were staying on the CL at the farm, as they have had to change to camper vans because of health reasons. It was lovely to see them. It was also lovely to see Mike and Ruth; thanks to their son who towed their van over for them.

After Flag some people started to pack up and make their way home. We set off mid afternoon so that I can finish my last week of work, then we can also join the ranks of the retired, who were moving on to Sandywell for next weekend.

We must say a big thank you to our marshals Tom and Iris, Mauveen and John and Kerry, Mark, Thomas and Jack for an enjoyable weekend and their wonderful hospitality.
